Toxic Fungi

Also known as "Death Angel". This mushroom is deadly and can cause symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and cramps, followed by liver and kidney failure. These symptoms often appear 6-24 hours after ingestion.

This mushroom grow in rotting wood across North America, Europe, and Asia, and often mistaken for edible mushrooms. This mushroom contains amatoxins which causes severe liver and kidney failure and death. Symptoms appear 10 hours after ingestion which also includes cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting.

Mainly found in grass, woodchips, or dung. species like C. rugosa are deadly poisonous meaning they contain amatoxins. Others like Conocybe siligineoides are used ritually for hallucinations but making the identification is difficult but crucial.

Many are poisonous and contain lethal amatoxins, especially the Deadly dapperling and Chestnut dapperling. A very distinctive white to browish caps with dark scales, white gills, and fragile stems. They mainly grow in grassy areas and woodlands. It is a great challenge to identify then due to the similar appearance it has to edible mushrooms.

While this mushroom is lethal, there have been studies that found that the toxin found in the death cap mushroom, which is amanitin can also be used to kill cancer cells. Just like many of the other mushrooms, death cap also causes liver and kidney failure and can lead up to death.

Symptoms begin 10 hours after ingestion and the first symptoms are diarrhea, cramps, vomiting, and eventually leads to kidney or liver dysfunction. You can identify by their yellowish rusty gills, sticky caps, ring on the stem, and they are small and brown.

This fungi can be identified by the irregular brain-shaped cap that it has. The toxin found in this mushroom is called gyromitrin which the body converts into monomethylhydrazine. 5 hours after ingesting is when the problems start. First it starts with gastrointestinal distress and it can potentially lead to fatal seizures and coma.

The toxin responsible for the kidney failure this mushroom can cause you is Orellanine. The symptoms after ingesting it start of with flu like symptoms followed by apparent recovery just to later give you severe organ failure.
