Peaches originated in China and are a member of the rose family,
related to almonds. They are categorized as either clingstone or
freestone, are a good source of vitamins A and C, fiber, and
potassium, and have fuzzy skin that protects them from moisture and
rot. There are thousands of varieties of peaches, and nectarines are
just a smooth-skinned variety of peach, differing by only one gene.
